Alfred Ramskill-Pugh

Industrial Designer.
After studying at the Glasgow School of Art, Köln School of Design and Paris École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, the final thesis year at GSA collaborates with the local lace manufacturing industry of Scotland. Looking to find contemporary uses for a textile though physical experimentation of material.
Following an extensive study for a master’s in European Design, I am looking to apply myself within design practice.

LACE – A STUDY OF THE LACE TEXTILE IN DOMESTIC INTERIOR USES
Dividing spaces is one of the most prominent questions when looking at modern working environments such as co-working spaces and open-plan studios. Dividing interiors can befit large open spaces both thermally, visually and sonically; however, a question arises when dividing a space without compromising light and airflow within a building.
This project was developed in collaboration with the UK’s remaining lace factories. Looking at contemporary interior, and domestic uses for the textile. Demonstrating how open-weave textiles can be used thermally and visually to divide rooms for contemporary interior settings.
This project forms the final master’s thesis from a Master in European Design and brings together the skills acquired through the study of the course.
