(she/her)

My work explores the intersection between cultural heritage and feminism, aiming to express the complexities of womanhood in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Traditional gender roles upheld in a habitually patriarchal society have inspired me to make an ongoing effort to reclaim and reinterpret heritage from a feminist perspective, ensuring that women’s contributions and experiences are recognized and valued.

Domicile Rediscovered

Contains references to domestic and sexual violence.

Domicile Rediscovered is an exploration of female resilience spanning centuries in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project focuses on themes of emancipation, resistance, and empowerment, revealing the various methods women have used to assert their autonomy within a traditionally patriarchal society.

The piece is characterised by traditional motifs and patterns woven into its visual narrative, drawing inspiration from the region’s abundant cultural heritage. These elements are not merely decorative but serve as symbols of identity, resistance, and continuity. These motifs bridge the past and present, underscoring the strength and creativity of Bosnian and Herzegovinian women.

A significant focus of the project is on the traditional crafts of the region, which are highlighted not just as cultural artefacts but as vital tools of expression and empowerment. These crafts, often passed down through generations, embody the skills, stories, and resilience of women who have used them to sustain their families and communities.

Domicile Rediscovered aims to amplify the voices of marginalised women, providing a platform for their stories to be heard and recognised within a broader social context. By doing so, the project seeks to challenge and transform the dominant narratives, celebrating women’s autonomy and resilience. It fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the roles women have played in shaping the cultural and social landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Domicile Rediscovered not only honours the past but also inspires future generations to continue the legacy of strength, creativity, and empowerment.
