I am a Scotland based artist working across a range of disciplines, including painting, drawing, printmaking, handwoven tapestry and film. My work is underpinned by a strong drawing practice, which allows me to understand my subject and relationship to it/them, as well as bridging the leap between initial impressions and more developed works.
Drawings made from observing the landscape around my home in rural Scotland, as well as invented or mythological narratives, have provided a starting point for recent works. These drawings, paintings, prints and tapestries act like windows into intimate worlds, conveying a sense of time moving and of our fleeting perceptions of places. Like the landscapes they draw own, and our memories, they are elusive and hard to pin down, existing both in the present and rooted in history.

Fluid and dream-like, my recent drawings, paintings and tapestries are like memories. The amorphous shapes and marks which emerge and coalesce in these works relate to the fluidity of memory and our mental processes.
In addition to referencing the presence of the self, they also suggest vast geological formations, the passage of time, sedimentary accumulation and overlay, and meaning lost and found in form. The playful and intuitive coupling of visual gestures towards a human presence and geography can be seen as a metaphor for the dialogue between the means of production and the physical and imagined places which the work draws on.
Considerations about the physical and material properties of liquid pigment and woollen yarn, as well as the emotive qualities of colour, drive the alchemical transformations in these works. Pigment pools and woven landforms collide and shift, creating subtle topographies, which echo a particular landscape and light as well as a longing for them.
