Painting & Printmaking School of Fine Art
Kacey O’Connor
Kacey’s practice currently explores the juxtaposition between pairing traditional, typically Renaissance artworks with more animated modern imagery. Their methodology starts with a thorough digital investigation involving digital drawing and collating, which takes them into their current studio painting. In their traditional work, their practice is currently relatively simple in that they bounce between very quick, expressive, loose sketches to long, winding, intricate paintings. These quick yet thorough investigations allow them to jump freely between the variety in characterising their subject matter. The thematic relevance of juxtaposition in their work stems from a personal investigation of the self in how the media and the ‘art’ they grew up with worked in tandem with what they had to learn and adjust to in pursuing art academically. This relationship between their subject matter can be construed as either that of a vandalistic nature or that of accepting the fundamentals they grew with accompanying them.
