SKILLS FOR LIFE
SKILLS FOR LIFE is a service implemented by the Scottish Government to improve PSE (personal, social education) within Scottish High Schools by focusing on improving the lack of life-skill education within the education system. The service consists
of a mobile bus that travels around high schools. Within the bus is a series of workshops focusing on four key life-skills- finance, CV/ interview skills, communication and household DIY/maintenance. The workshop is led by local business owners, emergency services, politicians etc. that use these life-skills day to day. At the end young people are introduced to the SKILLS FOR LIFE app that is used to continue on their life-skill education and publish jobs/opportunities that become available. The app is also ran by mentors as this allows for young people to connect back with them in the future when needed.
Looking into the future of SKILLS FOR LIFE service mentors would eventually develop to become people who previously used the service and was able to gain a job/opportunity because of it. They would then be invited back to lead the service and share their own story.
ECOPROTECT
Protecting what Protects Us.
The Government has introduced a 4 day working week to allow for the 5th day to be now dedicated to helping revive eco-systems.
Eco-Protect is a council led service which aims to involve the community to help restore their local eco-systems which are failing due to pollution and global warming. By using information found by the Bacteria Design Consultancy, the council holds mandatory meetings, educating the community about issues found. Tasks are set for locals to help improve their area. Meetings reoccur with the chance to co-design for their local eco-system, helping to create ownership. With tasks completed locals are able to gain vouchers for their dedicated work.
The council service also controls an online platform which allows for people in the community to connect with each other sharing what they are doing to help and also offering suggestions.
