Krzysztof Dulba (he/him)
I’m a graphic designer who likes to make things.
My practice can be described as experimental and idea-driven
with a healthy dose of irony and humor. In my work, I often venture outside the perimeter of conventional graphic design and find myself traversing other disciplines such as sound design, filmmaking, or product design. Main interests of mine include exploring and creating different systems and patterns as well as old analog technology and motorsports. After graduation I would like to focus on furthering my interests, especially working with systems and creating work for physical spaces.
GRAVEL is an exploration of the world of rallying in the late ’90s and early 2000’s I was fascinated with while growing up. I’m using colours and visual cues of the team I used to root for, Subaru.
My aim for this project was to convey the drama, speed and madness of rallying through experimentations with typography and colour, and create a visual love letter to the sport. The starting point for the typeface were maps of rally stages I remembered from computer game graphics I used to play as a kid.
Penguin Student Book Award
Cover design for The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells.
The concept for the design was based around a visual metaphor
– a pencil that has been sharpened so many times there’s not much life left in it. It suggests that the remaining bit of the lead should be used wisely and cautiously. The pencil theme is carried on to the text by the use of handwriting.
On Fair Isle
Branding for craft beer celebrating Fair Isle knitwear. The design combines simple knitting patterns with colours I sampled from images of Fair Isle. The label is placed high up on the can/bottle to mimic proportions of a human body where often the most dominant pattern of the jumper is placed on the chest. The use of paper with visible fibers further links the brand to the physicality of knitting.
Dictionary of Isolation
Dictionary is a database. Everybody pulls hundreds of words out of it every day to communicate. But what we communicate to others and subsequently what words we use depends on who we are, how we feel, and what situation we are currently in.
Inspired by documentaries on British detention centres as well as being cut off from most of the human interaction due to pandemic
I decided to create a dictionary of isolation containing only words associated with it. I wanted to convey the feeling of being isolated by leaving the structure of a dictionary intact but depriving the reader of any words that aren’t isolation-related.
Hertz RGB Colour Generator
I’ve been tasked with designing a new visual identity and instructional materials for the Hertz Corporation, a leading manufacturer of output generating devices. The new branding is to be premiered with the unveiling of the company’s latest product line, System 5000.
System 5000 by Hertz Corporation is a versatile output generation solution capable of performing various tasks with high efficiency and at low operating costs. Possible applications of System 5000 span across multiple disciplines such as science, design, art, education and mathematics to name just a few.
RGB Colour Generator is a part of System 5000 but can also be used as a stand-alone unit. Its main function is to generate colour from the RGB spectrum by individually adjusting Red, Green, and Blue channels.
