Mercurial desires and the body contested
This project is an exploration of sex, intimacy, and desire, through a Queer Chinese perspective.
‘Bodies are sites in which social constructions of differences are mapped onto human beings.’
Nadia Brown & Sarah Allen Gershon
Within the western gaze there is this joint phenomenon of the hyper-sexualisation of Asian woman and the desexualisation of Asian men. As someone that traverses the boundaries between masculinity and femininity, I have often felt ornamental, fetishized and othered; something to be observed, admired, or completely overlooked. Here I utilise the studio and my photographic practise to provide myself a cathartic release, an acknowledgment of my experiences and a reclamation of my sexuality; recentring joy and love.
