Maja Donachie
I am a fashion designer who is focused on the craftmanship behind each garment and how I can make them to a high standard. Through developing my skills in tailoring, pattern cutting, and drape has given me a better understanding of construction and the development of shape. Always thinking of the wearer and how the garments make them feel as well as look.
Virago
Archaic: A woman of masculine strength or spirit; a female warrior.
Reclaiming the original meaning of virago in creating a collection that combines masculine with feminine silhouettes that of tailoring and lingerie merged together to produce garments for a strong independent woman. Craftsmanship plays a key role in the making of this collection through the continuous development of pattern cutting and drape and its role in the merging of masculine shape into my womenswear collection. Tailoring plays an important role in the garments I make, taking time to add shape and structure of my work to the female silhouette. Using my sewing skills both machine and hand to produce garments that are made from designer dead stock fabrics to successfully make my collection.
