Maya Schonning Kjaerulff

(She/Her)

Maya Schønning Kjærulff (b. 1996) is a visual artist from Copenhagen, Denmark, currently based in Glasgow.

Kjærulffs’ work revolves around editing and translation processes. Cropping and reframing found material, she explores the relationships between private and public space, scale and intimacy, often through a translation from image to textile. Using a digital loom, she weaves both text and images, leaving certain aspects hidden, whether it being parts of the content, the material, or the original source itself.

After/words is an exploration of fictional scenes, scripted reality and reframing narratives. Through the process of cropping and editing out people from the scenes, where intimate conversations and acts has happened, the woven images suggest a new narrative.
