My designs include different elements of nature that I have collected while on walks in the British countryside. I was inspired by these walks because I find the experience of the forest to be calming and relaxing as well as finding the hidden beauty in it. Mushrooms and other fungi are important influences in my work as I am interested in the way that they transform and grow throughout their lifecycle, so I try to show this in my work by including elements of movement and by using crochet.
The crochet is an important aspect of my work as I believe that these pieces help to portray the aspect of growth as the process of crocheting imitates the growth of tree rings and the fungi that it is inspired by. Using my work, I want to convey the feeling of the forest and how nature grows and envelops whatever is in its path. I am inspired by the mushrooms because of the way that they have different textures and appearances and how they are so intricate and often overlooked by people, even though they have their own beauty to them.
