Interaction Design School of Design

Rayhan Ahmed (He / him)

My work this year has been a result of my different paths of research and trying to combine them in an effective and meaningful way to communicate and evoke emotions while finding connections between people, using computational and generative tools to create visuals, while also honing in on the physical making to create new ways of displaying and interaction.

My work focuses on warping and changing perspectives in physical space. A space that people can explore and integrate which is also shaped and influenced by those interacting with it.

Waves

“Wave” is about warping and changing perspectives in physical space where people can explore and integrate the space which is also shaped by those interacting with it. As you move closer, the images you see will overlap, warp and move, not only changing what you see but the space around you.

“Waves” is a combination of my research into the future of design tools and the exploration of identities through memories and lost connections. Trying to evoke feelings of the fragility of the memories we consider to be foundations of ourselves and then represent them in a physical space. Inspired by my own experiences of having a rich cultural heritage that had a profound influence on my upbringing but now have no connection to.

Using abstract visuals that have been created using collected 35mm film that have been lost or thrown away that I have now come into possession of, through my research on the relationship between memory and identity. I aim to evoke feelings of a distant connection or familiarity that people can relate to.
