Sarah Addison

My graduate collection, specialising in knit, has been developed & made on the 12 gauge Dubied industrial knitting machine. I have combined multiple techniques to create unique, interactive & playful designs. I love exploring colour and have carefully selected combinations that are unusual but balanced within my final collection.

The catalyst and imbedded narrative for my collection of knitted textiles centres around expressing an emotional connection to my home which manifests in relationships, places and shared experiences. The acquisition of visual research focused on the juxtaposition of colour, form and repeating shapes collected within natural landscapes, traditional pubs and Dublin’s bar scene. This imagery captured unique colour combinations, gloss and lustrous surfaces and relief structures that inspired the creation of knitted structures that retain external convex forms. I placed an emphasis on capturing these qualities primarily utilising Viscose threads in combination with ribbed and plaited structures resulting in a distinctive collection of fabrics based on scanned and distorted digital drawings.
