( she/her)

I have a deep interest in exploring liminal spaces, those transitional or threshold areas that exist between reality and imagination. My work often revolves around creating captivating virtual realities and narratives, driven by my passion for creative experimentation. I enjoy delving into 3D immersive environments using C4D and Octane Renderer, aiming to express the subtle nuances that exist within these in-between spaces. Additionally, I have a keen interest in moving image and its visual impact, which I integrate seamlessly into my projects. In the field of book design, I find pleasure in combining cover design, layout, and editing techniques to convey the artist’s philosophy and message effectively. This process allows me to immerse myself in articulating the artist’s vision while effectively communicating their message visually.

Non-place

Non-Place is a virtual space design project aimed at visualizing how totalitarian regimes meticulously utilize space to convey their ideologies. Inspired by my fascination with liminal spaces—those in-between areas that blur the lines between reality and imagination—I explore architectural plans that were unrealized due to political changes, as well as completed structures that remained incomplete, evoking a dreamy and uncanny feeling from the boundaries between vision and reality. My main focus is on spaces that employ visual strategies, functioning as societal anesthetics to idealise the state, such as pastel tones, kitschiness, and retro-futuristic design elements. This also emphasizes large-scale, innovative forms in architecture to envision a new future. Such buildings often dominate the city skyline, leaving a futuristic and overwhelming impression. While we often imagine only solemn spaces, the unexpectedness of these designs is intriguing. Through my work, transporting viewers into a picturesque time capsule that invites them to peer into a visionary world. This project aims to explore these spaces’ subtleties and similarities without being overtly political. The journey follows the path of the symbol’s beads.

Beyond the Smog

This billboard utilises a striking combination of video collage, thermal imaging effects, and time-lapse to reveal the unseen impact of air pollution in London’s high-traffic areas. By juxtaposing and transforming everyday scenes and maps captured in black-and-white with vibrant thermographic footage, the project highlights the contrast between visible daily life and the invisible environmental threat posed by emissions.

Exploring the Intangible in Ceramics

Jinyoung Lee: Exploring the Intangible in Ceramics is an artist book that commemorates her two main ceramic projects, Lang Craigs and _less, spanning from March 2023 to January 2024. The book seeks to expand upon the narrative of the exhibitions, offering readers a deeper understanding of her creations and the inspiration behind them. It aims to engage a wider audience by immersing them in the essence of her work and shedding light on her artistic themes. Additionally, the book includes insights into her commitment to ceramics as her primary medium, showcasing her experimental works in a visual essay format. The book reflects her exploration of the interplay between the intangible and the tangible. Its design and layout are inspired by the shapes and textures found in her ceramic artworks, accentuating their ethereal essence and fluidity.

The Thames & Hudson Competition – The Unseen Saul Leiter

I participated in the Thames & Hudson Book Design Competition and designed the cover and 28 pages for the first deadline. The theme of the book is about Saul’s unpublished film slides, and I designed it using analog film slides and his signature red colour as the main design elements. I plan to complete the project by the final submission deadline at the end of June.

WIP Show Identity

For the Comdes WIP show, I joined the design team to create online promotion videos and GIFs for the exhibition’s projector. The goal was to portray the visuals as ‘loading’ rather than ‘finished’ and to take a unconventional approach, emphasising the potential of ongoing works at the studio. To evoke curiosity and hint at the ‘potential emerging from the desk,’ 3D models were crafted by wrapping each one’s work, rendered to spin atop the desks. It was designed to stimulate more curiosity and imagination, highlighting unexpected aspects of the works for promotional video.
