Tumi Mokopane (She/Her)

As a multi-disciplinary artist, much of my work is inspired by the ever-evolving trials and tribulations of what it is to be human, with key themes such as mental health and identity being integral to my artwork. I aim to provoke viewers to leave with a deeper emotional connection to themselves, looking within. I explore these ideas in my practice through digital illustration, focusing on condensing these complex subject matters in a balanced, playful way through animation and my keen passion for 3D illustrations. Captivating visual journeys that celebrate the convergence of art, design, and culture.

Through a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics, I hope to transport viewers to a world where creativity knows no bounds and can be playful. Each meticulously crafted artwork breathes life into diverse narratives, through the exploration of identity and self-expression. I seek to challenge conventional notions of beauty and embrace the uniqueness found within each individual. By drawing inspiration from nature, cultural traditions, and personal experiences, I hope to create a space where authenticity and diversity are celebrated.

The Shape of Loneliness

I believe that creativity can evoke emotion and share a part of yourself that may have stayed hidden without that outlet. This can be seen in my animation ‘The Shape of Loneliness’, an interview with my 17-year-old brother on what loneliness is to him. I aimed to create something deeply personal but with a message many could relate to, aided by visuals that help balance out such a moving topic. With this collaboration, I hope that viewers are able to walk away feeling seen and begin opening up the quiet yet troubling conversation on isolation and loneliness in our society. What is the shape of loneliness to you?

Finley, The Fretful Fish of Worrywater Bay

Finley, The Fretful Fish of Worrywater Bay is a playful 34-page children’s book following a little fish that worries all day, teaching children that it’s okay to worry and that they, too, can be brave. Each illustration has been carefully rendered in the 3D computer graphics software Blender to look like clay, capturing a playful, child-like aesthetic and bright colours that jump out to the page, grabbing your attention.

‘Dive into the enchanting world of Worrywater Bay, where a Fretful Fish named Finley learns a life-changing lesson about overcoming his worries. With the help of a wise old turtle, Finley sets off on a heartwarming adventure to discover the magical Calm Current Cove, a place filled with peace and kindness.

As Finley sets on his journey, he finds that true freedom from his worries is not found in a magical location but within himself. Through courage and determination, he learns to face his fears head-on, unlocking his strength hidden deep inside.

Join Finley as he changes from the Fretful Fish of Worrywater Bay to a joyful swimmer!’
