A touch understood by humans as warmth or care may, for an aquatic creature or a being with a delicate protective membrane, become a contact that damages its means of protection. Placed in a forest rather than water, the aquatic form is not intended as a scene of death, but suggests a state that remains open to another way of living and relating after leaving familiar conditions of survival. The colours and traces revealed through sanding show how sensation does not disappear after injury, but remains in altered forms, continuing to shape the present.
