‘Lost (Garment) Life’

“Spotlights, Catwalks, clean cut and perfect lines…” elegant vibes for those in developed countries, but has anyone thought about the backstage of these fashion shows? “Poor working condition, violations of human rights, inequalities and the class struggle are real”, Amy exclaims. Amy aims to deliver the message of child workers who trapped in the ‘bottomless pit’ of the fashion crisis.

Fashion, an illusory yet stimulating domain that contains as much novelty as an unknown story, has increasingly become the core value of sustainability awareness. However, the merit of connection between the makers and wearers is understated. So, my theme of ‘Lost Life’ is to convey the true messages of the garments that we take for granted – from the superficial and frivolous perceptions of a simple piece of cloth to clothing labels on the market.

The underlying emotion: to resurface the exploitation of child labour in exchange for their basic survival. My collection used recycled materials but mainly abandoned garments, with the analogy of reflecting child poverty and lost childhood in fashion industry. But also, humbly wish for audiences’ empathy and appreciation – their outfits aren’t just fashion, but also someone’s hardwork.
