‘SET THE SCENE’ – Create and Capture.

‘Set The Scene’

Create and capture a scene–set design.

You can find colour, texture, and shape everywhere. I wanted to visualise my work back into society – but placed obviously for the always roaming eyes of today to interpret. By immersing myself in the fast-paced environment of London (in comparison to the West Highland of Scotland), I focused on space, interior, and exterior, how to fill it, while thinking playful and bold. Resourcing and repurposing scrap materials into off-loom woven objects made me focus on responsible design, producing a variety of samples to show a cohesive, inventive collaboration of different contemporary and uncontemporary weave. With a heavy interest in stylising and editorial work – my final collection will resemble a scene put back into society.

An additional project focusing on interactive Costume Design.

Costume design informed by movement and interaction design methods. The final solution consisted of sleeves made from recycled and re-sourced materials. I wanted to move onto a playful fashion design process of working and used very minimal, bold shapes from primary research I gathered around Glasgow. This informed many paper techniques and paper drawings before I turned these 3D and constructed a large-scale drawing to be photographed as a triangle sleeve. The base of the sleeve being made from a piece of black floor protector. The second sleeve was constructed from a tumble dryer hose and attached were many textured woven trims. These trims were handwoven on an 8 shaft table loom with 5 warps going on at once.

I continuously made sure that I focus on my responsibilities within the design to create and add to a circular economy.

Green Door

Throughout this covid-19 pandemic I found myself in my own home studio, in my bedroom, in my flat. Due to the dull light that I was exposed to I took myself out to my front door, and used the green colour to my advantage. I was able to photograph my designs and samples throughout the year and also entertain the neighbours!
