The work arose as a medium for reflecting on the nature of personal grief, remembrance, and ritual. The core of the piece is framed conceptually by traditional Korean cultural practices, with the shelving forming a three-dimensional manifestation of historic painted silk screens (Chaekgado), which resembled shelves containing objects intended to convey an enlightened household. This imagery is transformed in ‘물들은 차림 (The Objects That Drink)’ into physical objects which, rather than aspirational ornaments, act as physical and ritualised reflections of the memories both shared with a friend and experienced after their passing.
