木材工芸ギルド – The Wood Crafting Guild
This thesis explores the revitalization of wood craftsmanship in the context of Kyoto, Japan.
It aims to promote circular architecture and a more ecological construction industry through the reuse of materials, particularly wood. The materials are obtained from abandoned houses and temples (Akiya), and then reworked to suit a new use.
Built on the site of an abandoned Shinto shrine, the deconstructed materials are reimplemented into the construction of the guild.
The architectural response is to create a center and community space where carpenters and visitors can come together to exchange ideas, teach, and revive the ancient craft of woodworking.
Through the combination of traditional Japanese carpentry techniques with modern tools (BIM modeling, 3D Scanning) and machinery (CNC, robotic arms), this project will provide a platform for master carpenters and programmers to mentor younger generations and grow this knowledge.
Together, they will work towards creating the carpentry of the future.
