I have always been interested in the relationship between colours and emotions. In my graduate collections, using my favourite colour, Pink, I am trying to explain the relationship between pink and my identity, my Japanese culture, and the environment that surrounds me, to find answers to why I am attracted to this colour. I am continuing to work as a weaving designer; please contact me for any commission to design and create products, or for collaboration work.

PINK – Colour and Culture 1

I have taken inspiration from the significant amount of neon colour in Japanese culture, and also from the tiled patterns from traditional houses in my home town of Kyoto, which still exist today. I’ve also been inspired by the tiles in Glasgow tenement apartments which surround me now. The woven collection has inspiration from both modern and traditional Japanese cultures, with the suite comprising of interior products such as cushions, rugs, sofas and wall hangings, which are full of colours and textures, to provide a feeling of warmth.

PINK – KAWAII

‘Kawaii’ which means tender and gentle emotion, which I always have for pink. Inspiration from Japanese sweets that reminds me of my childhood and memory of my family.

Black and White

Inspiration from Japanese sweets, I focus on bold lines and textures inspired by sweets, creating simple structures and strong contrasts. My design context is a collection of black and white dress and fashion items.
