Master of Fine Art School of Fine Art

Kate Power

Kate Power is an artist and writer from Tarntanya (Adelaide) in Australia, currently based in Glasgow. Kate’s work seeks to elaborate the gaps between language and gesture, and the performative and the social, to think about how seemingly insignificant moments affect us psychologically and physiologically. Building textures and encouraging transformations in materials, Kate researches tensions in relationships through a studio ecology. With sensitivity to touch, Kate addresses strange intimacies of the social, artificial, and organic— positing non-sense as a mode of community building and a form of language in itself.

Kate Power completed a BA in Fine Art at the South Australian School of Art in 2014 and is currently undertaking an MFA at the Glasgow School of Art. Kate has presented work in exhibitions throughout Australia and internationally and undertaken residencies at The British School at Rome, NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, and SIM in Reykjavik. Kate is a 2020 recipient of the Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Art Scholarship.
