Sentimental Song Animation
I took inspiration from some incredible animations, for this animation of my own: from artists such as Lizzy Hobbs, Norman McLaren and Ainslie Henderson, as well as the real-life Glasgow boat: the PS Comet
My animation combines digital techniques and ink paintings, to create a work that embodies the feelings that this song invoked within me. This also inspired a limited colour palette of just shades of blue.With a melancholy, somber feel, I chose to focus on the isolation of the sea, by including only animals along-side the pianist character.
To tie into the lyrics, I made sure to include references to fishing traditions: such as the wassail drink and the sou’wester hat.
