‘unmaking’ of the ‘Making’ installation

Copper sulphate solution and aluminium

Performed from the 26th of May-7th June. The archive documents were dissolved throughout the duration of the exhibition and renamed ‘unmade’ 2026 #1,2,3… whilst the floor installation embossed when walked upon.

The archive documents originated from the California Institute of the Arts Feminist Art collection and document early feminist art groups manifestos, lectures, and personal ephemera. As the documents dissolved, fragments of text were gradually revealed until the erased versions of the documents were fully legible. The intention being to re-imagine the documents to exist within their own temporality, away from dominant narratives and homogenous feminist practices that female artists are subjected to. The process is a physical gesture against patriarchal systems by removing, exposing, and critiquing language that enforces the notion of ‘one history’.  What’s left is an attempt to answer the cyclical question of how to work with and against existing systems that determine our portrayal and perception without reinforcing the patriarchy.
