“JUNK”
Material and textural forms are what I have ended up fixating on. The feeling of my work under gaze and fingertip, at any angle or distance. It is about seeing how a piece has been taken apart and reassembled. The utilisation of collage as a medium flows parallel with my use of text; it is the act of sounding something out. The sensation and movement of the mouth around words. How phonetics may appear within the consciousness, and how they may be spoken out loud. It is the act of using words and sounds as a physical structure, rather than some kind of beacon of knowledge and meaning.
Thematically, I showcase what I like, what I want to see, and what I find funny; something that applies both to my archival collection of images and of words. I poke and prod at hardcore masculinity, gun culture, beer, and pornography – all ripped straight from the twisted lens of the advertising world throughout the 20th and early 21st Century.
