A Dear Green Place

Glasgow is referred to as “a dear green place”, deriving from the Gaelic “Glaschu”, which translates as “dear green spot”, yet this presence of nature is significantly lacking within the city centre, especially in and around the Blythswood Grid. The absence of parkland, trees and vegetation, not only starves the people of accessible public space, but also neglects Glasgow’s ecological importance within a temperate rainforest ecosystem.

With growing climatic challenges, these delicate environments must be protected. The project explores mass timber construction, celebrating its beauty and structural opportunities, and provides a space to exhibit the significance of Glasgow’s natural environment in The Glasgow Room.
