Amy Clunas
(She/Her)
I’m Amy Jean Clunas, an interior design student at The Glasgow School of Art with a passion for creating spaces that feel meaningful and calming. My work is heavily influenced by personal experiences, especially around wellbeing and healing environments, which has shaped the way I approach design.
I love combining creativity with emotion, whether that’s through interiors, event styling or bespoke design ideas. I’m drawn to projects that tell a story and make people feel something as well as create a real connection between people and space.
The Glasshouse formerly known as The Springburn Winter Gardens
The Glasshouse: A Concept for a Spa & Wellness Sanctuary
This project is my concept design for a spa and wellness centre created specifically for cancer patients and survivors, set within the historic Springburn Winter Gardens. The aim is to transform the existing glasshouse into a calm, supportive environment that focuses on healing not just physically, but emotionally as well. The design is inspired by the idea of growth and recovery. The glasshouse itself becomes a metaphor, filled with natural light, planting, and open space, it reflects the journey from vulnerability to strength.
Using biophilic and trauma informed design, the space is intended to feel warm, safe, and non-clinical, with locally sourced materials adding a natural and grounding quality throughout. The layout is centred around a hydrotherapy pool and thermal spaces, including jacuzzis, a sauna, and a salt wall, all designed to support relaxation and wellbeing. Alongside this, there are areas for arts therapy, a games room, and a salon, recognising the importance of creativity, identity, and social connection during recovery. Private en-suite rooms offer a more personal retreat, each with access to its own garden and outdoor hot tub, giving users a sense of control and privacy. A healing garden runs from exterior to reception, creating a quiet place for reflection, while a mezzanine level with a bar and restaurant overlooks the planting, encouraging moments of normality and interaction.
Overall, The Glasshouse is about creating a space that feels human, supportive, and restorative, where people can take time to heal, reconnect with themselves and feel a sense of comfort and hope.
Cook & Play
This Y3 project challenged and developed my skills further through the design of an ASN soft play and educational centre within the former William Cook & Sons building.
The proposal featured sensory spaces, an inclusive soft play area, open courtyard, digital skills lab, breakout spaces, teaching kitchen, and a public restaurant designed to support learning, social interaction, and community inclusion for individuals with Additional Support Needs.
