Gilleasbuig MacVicar

(He/Him)

My work is a response to the place where I feel a deep-rooted sense of belonging, attempting to capture daily life and delving into memory and the subconscious longing to return. Having grown up in the Isle of Skye with family connection to North Uist I have been steeped in Gàidhlig culture through my upbringing, being a speaker of the language and being involved in the culture in many ways particularly through music.

I am a traditonal musician, having been a piper from a young age I also play the accordion and whistle. I have incorporated the sounds of traditional instruments within my short films through composition and also reworking old songs. This has been blended with my field recordings mostly of nature to reflect the landscapes and culture.

I have also developed a deep interest in sound synthesis whether this be creating and arranging music or creating sound design through synthesis.

Aig Muir

A day in the life following a tour boat skipper in Portree, Isle of Skye who lives for Gaelic song.

This piece takes focus on filming, location sound recording and music composition: this piece involves Gaelic sea-themed songs ‘Tionndadh am bàt/Turn round the boat’ and ”S Truagh Nach do Dh’fhuirich mi Tioram air Tìr/It’s a pity I didn’t stay dry on land’ as well as traditional composition on the accordion and whistle bringing forward the connection between the nature, place and culture.
