Invisible Forces
I endeavoured to understand how luck, as an invisible force, can manifest in tangible ways. It appears that to most people luck exists as a comfort rather than a real force. Using this idea I created a set of cards that can bring comfort through different superstitions. Out of the thousands of possible lucky superstitions in the world, these cards give you one lucky task daily. To guarantee improved luck all you have to do is complete a simple task each day!
The set of cards contains 28 designs of various lucky actions. Ranging from common superstitions ‘Find a 4-leaf clover’ to more extreme tasks ‘Break a leg’ – the cards test how deeply the user is dedicated to their pursuit of luck by removing choice. Whether you believe in the action of luck or not, the feeling of doing something lucky can relieve anxiety so I developed the cards as a method of harnessing the force of luck.
Future Identity
This speculative design project presents the same product through two different brand identities. I imagined a future product that could solve all life’s issues – patches that can change your mood and skills. By presenting two identity routes I aimed to make the brands seem entirely different in tone and target market. One is a clinical approach focused on the technology of the product, and the other is based on the positive emotional effects of the product. Using different styles for each route presented a unique challenge for this project, but allowed me to create a deeper story through the brand identities.
