Elsewhere on a Stage: Fragments of an Odyssey
I have conjured a stage; a wagon/ship/stage that is pulled by hand and moored around the city, offering an opportunity to perform. Encountering various obstacles, we walked the wagon around the city. A journey that chartered a 7 mile loop, partly in the city’s neglected and shadowy places, (underpasses, litter-strewn grassy verges), unfolding various unexpected tales from the Odyssey, with a choir and equipment for a gig. This work attempts to excavate the memory of it, finding a place between fact and fiction. I like these in-between moments: something half-made, half-expressed, the backstage with ladders and stage-lights in frame. The two parts of this journey constitute the beginning of an ongoing work that will continue to be pulled around Glasgow and beyond: a portable stage for musicians, dancers, plays.
