folklore
Gilbert the Grim Reaper, about 9ft tall and full of character, stands tall with his scythe in his hand, awaiting to reap some souls. he is made up of a metal armature, with his massive plaster hands and holds a wooden scythe. his body has a mass of black fabric that drapes over creating this large-scale sculpture his face is made from gun foam and lights up, he is surrounded by lanterns and lights to help capture that atmospheric mood.
This large sculptural piece explores the way we portray death and how we face it. Its one of those things we are not prepared for, in life, though such an amazing folklore tale has lingered through history and people either love it or hate it, when faced with our fears its hard to ignore, i made this piece so big as when things are put in front of us we cant hide. i tryed taking away the seriousness of the subject and giving him some humour Gilbert is a great big reaper with is oversized hands and his dazed stare,
