Anna Campbell
(She/Her)
Throughout my interior design education, including two years of an HND and three years at the Glasgow School of Art, I have developed a design approach that combines creativity, technical understanding, and a strong appreciation of how people interact with space.
As an aspiring interior designer, I am particularly passionate about commercial, hospitality, and residential design, with a focus on creating innovative environments that balance functionality, aesthetics, and immersive user experience. This approach was developed and applied in my fourth-year project, which focused on the design of a boutique hotel in Glasgow, centred on experiential and narrative-led interiors inspired by the city’s creative arts and theatre scene.

Project Site
Encore House is located at 124 St Vincent Street, right in the heart of Glasgow. This central location is within walking distance of some of the city’s most popular theatres, making it ideal for a theatre-inspired boutique hotel. Guests can easily access cultural attractions, restaurants, bars, and transport links, enhancing their overall experience and creating an immersive stay within Glasgow’s vibrant arts and entertainment district.
The building itself, dating from the 1800s, exudes a strong Victorian character that aligns well with the context of this project. This provided an opportunity for a transformation that balances the preservation of its existing heritage with a new contemporary identity. The site comprises nine storeys with generous floor plates, which have been utilised to accommodate a variety of room types, experiential elements, and social spaces throughout the hotel.

Guest Lobby and Reception
Encore House reception sets the scene for guests as soon as they enter the building. Stepping into a warm and welcoming atmosphere, guests can check in and begin their stay seamlessly. I dedicated the reception area to my 20-credit Extended Design project, designing a three-piece adaptable reception installation comprising a bespoke desk, integrated lighting, and interchangeable back panels inspired by the movement and transformability of kinetic stagecraft.
Encore House Coffee Lounge
Encore House Coffee Lounge offers both hotel guests and the general public a cosy and welcoming space to socialise, enjoy a warm drink, and have a light bite to eat. The lounge provides a variety of seating options for individuals and groups, alongside comfortable areas suitable for working, creating a flexible environment that supports both relaxation and productivity throughout the day.
The coffee lounge counter is designed for efficient service, offering a selection of speciality coffees, teas, and light refreshments. The menu includes a range of freshly prepared sandwiches and pastries, available for both dine-in and takeaway.
The design of the coffee lounge draws inspiration from traditional Victorian theatre interiors, combined with contemporary elements that complement the identity of Encore House. Rich materials, layered lighting, and carefully curated furnishings are used to create a warm and immersive atmosphere. Intimate seating arrangements, varied textures, and subtle theatrical detailing enhance the sense of comfort and escapism, encouraging guests to linger and connect within the space.

Restaurant and Guest Breakfast Area
The main restaurant is an immersive dining environment where guests are seated alongside and around the open kitchen, creating a direct connection to the culinary process. This layout enhances the dining experience through live cooking views, close interaction with chefs, and an engaging atmosphere that blends dining with performance.
Just off the main restaurant lies the bar area, offering a more intimate and relaxed setting that transitions into the guest breakfast space each morning. The visuals highlight bespoke elements such as the bar, booth seating, open kitchen, and ceiling design, which draws inspiration from the ornate detailing of the Pavilion Theatre, introducing a sense of elegance and theatricality to the space.

Royal Suite
Located on the top floor is the Royal Suite, inspired by the Theatre Royal in Glasgow. This space functions as both the Artist in Residence Suite for performers at The Hidden Stage Speakeasy or nearby theatres and the Presidential Suite when not occupied by resident artists.
The suite benefits from its own private lift entrance, as well as direct access to the internal balcony from within the room. It features an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area designed for both comfortable living and hosting. The dining space also functions as a versatile meeting area, adding further flexibility to the suite.
The suite accommodates up to four guests, featuring two double king bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. It also includes a secondary lounge for relaxation and TV viewing, alongside a dedicated office space to support working guests.
