Painting & Printmaking School of Fine Art
Cecilia Baldauf-Clark

I am an artist working in drawing and painting, using old french linen tablecloths and scrap paper to make work on. Graphite, oil pastels and acrylic allow me to create work with confident mark making. I am further trying to create depth within my work through layering of materials and understanding the relations which colours play with one another.
Through my drawings and paintings I am physically recreating the nostalgia which I experience within my own mind. I am trying to understand why it is that childhood memories feel as though they are lit by candlelight. Achieving this through the art of constant collecting, surrounding the spaces which I inhabit with objects of sentiment, off cuts, cut outs, photographs and letters. My paintings depict those closest to me, my family performing everyday tasks within the interiors of their homes. Alongside this comes the objects that fill our homes and understanding why objects hold such invisible sentiment. Translating these invisible feelings into tangible paintings and drawings. My paintings keep a visual record of family traditions, heritage and rituals; immortalising them in paint. Furthermore it is an ode to those who have come before me, paying homage to the love and care they have put into their crafts.
I wish for my work to provide a space of warmth and safety for the viewer, to feel as if they are stepping into an old childhood memory.
