Charles Haynes
Charles’s work draws inspiration from the natural world; clouds, trees, landscapes, capturing fleeting moments and translating them into sculptural form.
Creating one of Charles’s sculptures is a complex and time-consuming process, typically spanning four to five months from concept to completion. Every stage of production, from digital illustration and optimisation to resin printing, lost-wax casting, fabrication, and final finishing, is meticulously executed to bring his vision to life. The final stainless steel sculpture features a highly polished, mirrored surface that is both visually striking and technically demanding. Achieving this flawless surface requires an intricate and meticulous polishing process, underscoring the extraordinary level of skill behind the sculpture.
Sky Trees – Polished mirrored stainless steel
This is a limited-edition sculpture of 9 pieces, standing 67cm high and can be commissioned upon request for larger or smaller scaled works.
Sky Trees explores the relationship between the sculptural canopy of trees and the infinite expanse of the sky. Inspired by his home landscape, Charles draws specifically on Willie Howe Barrow, a Neolithic mound topped with trees, creating a work that bridges ancient landforms with contemporary sculptural expression.
The creation of Sky Trees began with hands-on experimentation, using everyday materials to prototype the form. Developing into a scaled model, then refined through 3D scanning and detailed digital optimisation.
The final stainless steel sculpture features a highly polished mirrored surface, both visually captivating and technically complex. Charles’s use of finish invites the viewer into the work, encouraging them to see themselves reflected in it and fostering a deeper connection with nature.
Achieving this flawless finish requires an intricate, time-intensive process through polishing, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship behind the work.
