Solace
My fourth-year project Solace, is a therapy and support hub designed for survivors of domestic abuse, with a particular focus on women and children. The project is centred on rebuilding and empowering families in the aftermath of abuse. While Solace is open to all women and young people who have experienced violence, it is primarily centred around supporting young children providing them with a nurturing environment where they can safely express their emotions and process their trauma.
My project will be ran as a 6 to 12 month programme where residents and other users will be provided with personal support workers and psychotherapists. At the core of my project aims is to protect vulnerable children and young people from from the impacts of trauma and abuse, ensuring they have a safe space to heal and grow. As well as Rebuilding relationships and attachments between mother and child that have been strainded due to abuse, offering tailored therapeutic interventions to promote trust, understanding, and emotional resilience.
Solace will have hubs and shelters across different council areas within Scotland to help tackle issues following abuse. Solace will provide accommodation to families who are transitioning out of emergency shelters and are struggling to find their feeting, while the counselling, therapy and support work group will also be available to other domestic abuse survivors.
