Emily Yeats
Interlinked
This collection explores the connections shared between family, partners, and friends. The work gives physical form to these relationships, shaped by personal memory, the lasting presence of others, and the intimacy of being worn close to the body.
Central to the project is the idea of being interlinked: a profound connection in which lives, emotions, and experiences become closely entwined. For me, being interlinked is tied to feelings of calm, reassurance, and care, reflecting the emotional steadiness that close relationships can bring.
The visual language of the work is inspired by synapses, the tiny yet essential structures that support connection, memory, and emotional experience. Their branching, interwoven forms run throughout the pieces, offering a metaphor for the invisible bonds between people. Through wire weaving and enamel painting, the making process became therapeutic and connective, mirroring these quiet emotions. Blues and greens are used throughout the work to evoke calm, nurture, and emotional softness.
