Eva-Maria Horn

Born in Germany, Eva-Maria Horn is a Glasgow based multi-disciplinary artist who examines areas of modernity, identity and landscapes, especially through the lens of language, communication and tactility. Her work likes to reject the traditional approach to fine art and tries for the viewer and piece to unite as a singular entity.
Eva-Maria Horn uses photography, performance, film and digital media to create work that support her understanding of landscapes, her past and present, as well as family matters and interactive connections. Eva’s work often involves some form of audience participation which have spanned from QR codes and webpages to three demential interactive objects. Throughout her artistic practice she likes to add a playfulness to the work created and explore techniques and mediums that are new and unexplored for her.
Reforming the gallery etiquette and breaking the wall between spectator and work shown on the wall has been the key focus on the development of her most recent work and practice.

The Senses Must Be Used
The work shown in this exhibition is a tactile exploration of a chosen landscape in the scottish highlands with a very rich history in both science and folklore. Placing the body in this space, experiencing and exploring the physical sensation the mountain has to oneself. Touching, observing – feeling. Drawing from Nan Shepherd’s “The Living Mountain”, her chapter about senses didn’t just inspire the text on the metal plinth but also helped incorporating a tactile medium to the show. The metal feel boxes captured pieces found when visiting Schiehallion and are there to help merging yourself into the landscape through the visual and physical documentation.
