Fae Lael Borodiansky

(they/them)

I am an anthropological artist. I pursue obscure folklore, annotate psychological research papers, anatomize creative works, and partake in field studies in order to explore overlooked human experiences with a paradoxically ubiquitous lens. With the combination of historic and modern oil techniques, my paintings connect viewers to modern concerns via foundational cultural stories.

Curiosity

The Fext takes part in decorating the outside of their village. They may not be inside with everyone else yet, but are in the process of taking part in the party’s creation outside. Curiosity represents the act of experiencing emotions as they come; approaching with an open mind.

The village is assisting by bringing the celebration and community activities into an environment the Fext is more comfortable in. Open at your own pace, and true friends will meet you there.

Hauntings: An Oracle Deck; a series dedicated to examining schema therapy using humanity’s ‘inner demons and monsters’ in an accessible way for modern viewers who may not understand the nuances of themselves and others. By making this series accessible in a more commonly accepted form such as an oracle deck (similar to popular tarot decks), it will become an interactive work of art that can continue impacting viewers for decades to come.

Apathy

The external world and all its warmths do not reach the internal world of the Fext. This warm may feel like a fire, dangerous to the emptiness that protects them. While a party thrives below, the Fext lies on the roof, seemingly uninterested. Yet their proximity betrays a yearning to partake, a need that burns cold, opposite of the fire that threatens them.

The door is unlocked, creaked open as a silent invitation; the party is waiting. The Fext merely needs to take it.

The Fext

A Fext, a Zmrzlik, is a being born from the lonely winters of the Czechian dark forests. Their skin is formed of armor that no bullet can penetrate. Despite being built with the same skeleton as their fellow villagers, within, they are an empty vessel. Thus far, that emptiness protected them better than any part of their body.
