Painting & Printmaking School of Fine Art
Glen Burns

My work aims to deal with the experience of loss and grief, particularly my own recent experience with it. I use coloured pencils and acrylic paint on either card or canvas and pay attention to things like space or closeness to evoke a sense of isolation, listlessness but also a sense of life, that these items still remain after a person has passed, after these items were used often, the person leaving behind scratches, dents and other wear. My dad was also an artist in his free time, using the same materials that I do now, so I believe that there is also a sense of closeness to him in my artwork having that very strong connection from the start. I often create my work based on my own photographs that I have taken of places and things that have inspired me out and about, while also drawing from a variety of photographers and artists alike.
