Happiness

I created as many paintings as I could in the space of a month, focussing on exploring what visuals that make me happy and attempting to find out why through primary research. These paintings then became a book combined with excerpts from the talk ‘Where joy hides and how to find it’ By Ingrid Fetell Lee which heavily inspired me during the painting process. I followed my own manifesto which is included in the book.

Kanye West’s Attempts at Sincerity

I set out to create a visual metaphor for my essay topic, depicting Kanye West’s career timeline as a linear representation of the 4 stages of simulacra, explained by Jean Beaudrillard, with his actions in the later stages being a representation of the 4th stage of Simulacra; ‘Has no basis in reality’. To display this, I created a compilation of clips, starting in 2004, that show his change in persona over the years. I fed this compilation through analogue mediums 7 times in order to create degraded and abstracted visuals from the compilation.

Gretel Land

Gretel Land was an independent micronation whose land area was my desk at GSA. I was Prime Minister and had 3 citizens that worked for my government. My nation had its own constitution, passports, flag and currency: the G-buck. The nation sadly had to end due to ongoing corruption and fraud within the government and my lack of experience as a Prime Minister. The rise and fall of Gretel Land is detailed in this documentary.
