Interior Design School of Design
Hou Wan Leong

Me, originally from Macao, China, I began my educational journey in New Zealand before moving to Glasgow to pursue my studies in Interior Design. Throughout my life and academic career, I have been surrounded by diverse cultures and people, which has deeply influenced my creative perspective.
My work is inspired by themes of ethnicity, globalisation, and multiculturalism. I see interior design not just as a discipline of aesthetics and function, but as a platform for postcolonial expression and cross-cultural dialogue. I believe that spatial design holds the power to reflect and reshape narratives, making it a vital tool for cultural exchange in our increasingly globalised world.
Over the past four years, I have been fortunate to receive support and guidance from many individuals, and I have cultivated a deep interest in art history and the theoretical frameworks that underpin interior practice. These areas continue to inform and enrich my design process.
As I graduate, I look forward to further developing my practice within these fields, exploring the intersections of culture, identity, and space.

One Horizon
One Horizon is a visionary architectural proposal developed in response to the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games, reimagining Glasgow’s historic Briggait as a vibrant, multi-functional space where athletic excellence and everyday community life converge. Designed over a three-month period, the project transforms the site into a lasting civic asset that transcends the temporary nature of the Games. Public and private zones are clearly defined, with the ground and first-floor hard zones offering immersive experiences that allow visitors to engage with the spirit of the Games and explore sporting culture. Meanwhile, private areas on the first floor are designed to support athletes with adaptable spaces for training, recovery, and relaxation. The project is driven by a vision to create a unified horizon—a space rooted in equality, inclusivity, and mutual respect. Its goals include enabling athlete wellbeing, fostering public interaction with sport, promoting the values of the Commonwealth Games, and ensuring the continuation of health, culture, and community engagement long after the event concludes. Through sustainability, inclusivity, and future-proof design, One Horizon envisions a legacy where high-performance sport and civic life coexist and thrive within the urban landscape of Glasgow.
