Risky Business

Work originates with historic and present day absence regarding female portrayal. By addressing areas that lack female representation light is shed upon the contribution of women and a cultural void is addressed.

For now, practice considers the absence of a memorial to commemorate maternal mortality in the UK. Research is founded in a question, asking why thousands of memorials exist for losses suffered during armed conflicts, yet there are none for females lost during pregnancy and childbirth?

Using artwork as a way to open dialogue with embedded ideas, and challenge acceptance of values of yesterday.

‘Her risk is our gain, we are born from mother’s pain.’
