Jekabs Budnieks

Ever since young I have always been creative, to now confidently saying I am a designer, with a goal to make people’s life easier. I am particularly interested in user experience, materiality, and nature driven design, including sustainability. Within my work I deeply explore the human needs and wants to amplify the user experience by making daily life simpler and more interesting. Driven by concept-led thinking, research, and a strong aesthetic focus, I am to create solutions for people who live a busy and a stressful lifestyle.

Mindful Reflection

In a future of forced climate migration, the Retrospectre transforms essential footwear into a critical tool for mindful preservation.
It integrates haptic sensor insoles to archive the ground’s temperature and texture, alongside a rear-facing camera being able to hook on
clothing to film the path being left behind.

The journey culminates in a powerful moment of reflection. Re-experiencing the synchronised haptic and visual data ensures you
physically carry a cohesive, cherished memory of your vanished home, aiding psychological resilience in your new world.

‘Amplifying Glaswegians relationship with trees’

Did you know Glasgow is called ‘The Dear Green Place’? My project is about making Glaswegians see trees more than just high standing figures. See them as our neighbours and part of the ‘People Make Glasgow’ community.

Rooted is a system allowing people to learn and connect with each individual tree to learn more about the species and the benefits they support our city. Following with a monthly membership plan for families, children and individuals where they can become their own tree experts.

The monthly gift box consists of different tools for each membership option, receiving a monthly outlook of what is happening in Glasgow parks, invites to workshops with experts, tools to measure and look after our friends.

'Discover'

'Observe'

Experience the park from a trees point of view. Feel it, smell it, hear it.

'Engage'

'Learn'
