(she/her)
I am a multi-media artist based in Glasgow. Having grown up in a village in a more rural area of Scotland and moving to Scotland’s largest metropolis, was both daunting and alluring. My enhanced interested in the ecosystems within urban areas, has shaped my ongoing investigative practice. Through my work I am enquiring about human exploitations of the organic world through exploring themes of life cycles, decay and urbanization. I do this by engaging with the natural world as my surroundings continuously informs my work. I often make delicate works with organic matter, with intent to spark dialogue around the on- going issues of biodiversity loss through communicating themes of fragility and impermanence. I prioritise a sustainable approach to making art through my choice in materials and methods, such as chlorophyll printing with leaves and cyanotype impressions. My shadow projections, allow me to alternate the scale of my miniature work to be viewed magnified. These mediums and processes share the commonality of utilising light as a tool, so that the absence of light is what creates the imagery. Occasionally, I use painting as an opportunity to turn that absence into presence. Through sgraffito painting techniques the negative space becomes a positive image. The interplay between fragility and durability contextualise my conceptually driven practice.
