I design with people, not for them. Rooted in research and real conversation, my practice spans service and UX design across health, education, and social issues — finding where thoughtful design can challenge assumptions and create something more meaningful.

Learning Beyond Grades

Progress is personal. Yet Scottish secondary education still measures every young person against the same narrow standard. A grade. Assigned under timed conditions and presented as a summary of who they are.

Learning Beyond Grades proposes a different future, designed as part of Qualification Scotland’s ongoing assessment reform. A new national record tracks eight meta-skills, from creativity and collaboration to self-direction and resilience, evidenced continuously through a pupil’s real experiences inside and outside the classroom. Each skill is visualised as a growing profile of ripples — a unique fingerprint of an individual’s learning journey, deliberately designed so that no direct comparison between pupils is possible.

A pupils record grows as they grow. A living picture of learning over time, not a single moment becoming the final verdict.
