Lauren Smith

Scottish Artist and hospitality worker, aiming to blend and explore these key elements of my life. Documenting the encounters, interactions and traces made within the hospitality world, and more specifically within hotels. My work looks at the relationships that form in interaction with different kinds of people while in my role. Gathering physical and used “hotel artefacts” as well as illustrating the stories. I have been creating my own archive to assist me in my practice.

‘531’
Installation
Recycled hotel fabric, card switch controlled lighting system and a key card.
For my work ‘531’ I have used recycled hotel fabric as a way to create sculptural objects. Changing and preserving the moment or object. Exploring my experiance as a worker allows me to expose the underside of the hotel system. This work invites the audience to activate and change the installation by inserting a key card for power, turning on and lighting up parts of the work.
