(He / Him)

My graduate collection, Elytra, began with an investigation into insects, particularly butterflies, moths, and beetles. Through visits to the National Museum of Scotland and the Hunterian Museum Archives, I developed a deeper understanding of their rich colours and textures. However, it was the intricate structures revealed through macrophotography that fascinated me most. Throughout my four years at the Glasgow School of Art, I have developed a design language rooted in graphic interpretations of source material. By working with a range of technologies, including laser cutting and digital embroidery, I translated these organic forms into three distinct textile collections designed for commercial interior environments. The collection explores the relationship between natural structures and contemporary surface design, reimagining microscopic details as bold, modern textiles for spaces such as offices, hotels, and retail interiors.

For my Extending Design project, I wanted to explore the use of wood in a different way from my main studio practice. While I had previously used it as an embellishment, I was interested in making it a more prominent feature within the work. This led to the development of three tile collections designed to complement my graduate collection. Using laser cutting to create the wooden panels and digital embroidery to produce bespoke textile inserts, I combined the two processes to create a series of decorative surfaces that sit seamlessly alongside the main collection. The project allowed me to further explore the relationship between hard and soft materials, resulting in an extension that feels both cohesive and distinctive.
