Lois Levi

(she/her)

The potential for play when exploring ideas is central to my practise. As a designer, I work with a concept-driven approach, which has developed into a love of working both digitally and in print to work empathetically with the ideas at each project’s core. This year has also allowed me to explore different facets of my practise from writing copy, to art directing, which has only grown my love of championing far-fetched ideas and trying to execute them with clarity.

Gran’s System

Gran’s system is an instruction manual designed to bridge the gap between the largely undocumented practises of grans and the visual language of respected teaching. This manual in particular explores the unusual methods of safe-keeping practiced by grans, who I’ve found to be greatly under-appreciated archivists.

This replica of a library-owned photobook foregrounds the process of reading photographs through marginalia, specifically questioning how the layers of information hidden in each photograph can help to frame them.

Last Clogs

Identity for Last Clogs, inspired by the endangered craft of clog-making. Each aspect of the design was influenced by how the perceived pitfalls of clogs – their chunkiness, heaviness, and hardness – could be reinterpreted as assets for a modern, multi-faceted lifestyle.
