Nicholas Mclaughlin

(He/Him)

My name is Nicholas McLaughlin, and I’m a new media artist. My work explores art, digital media, and technology, and their meanings for artists, users, viewers, and the stories they can collectively tell.

My technique utilises both physical and digital artistic materials and the relationships they share, bringing them into the same creative space with a clear vision to excite those who experience it.

The core themes of my work are user-focused design and art, and opening doors for others so they, too, can experience everything art and technology has to offer.

Robert Trotter: Sing the City Glasgow

An interactive new media display that allows users to experience and explore a handful of Robert Trotter’s photographs, focusing on Glasgow. The work has a touch screen interface, projected motion graphics and mounted photography.

This piece explores the work of actor, writer, director and then photographer Robert Trotter, in his work ‘Sing the City’.

When photographing Glasgow, Trotter captures a city in transition, stripping away stereotypes to reveal a landscape of rugged resilience and raw character.

Trotter’s history of performance art shines through here; it’s not just people we see in these photographs, but characters, the unknown parts played within each photograph serving as a soulful anchor to his photography, proving that the city’s true heart isn’t in its buildings, but in the grit and humour of its inhabitants.

Through the exploration of this photography and the utilisation of motion graphics and interactive design, the aim is to create a new way of displaying, viewing and appreciating photography, and to open the door for those who might not have considered it before, or to reignite a passion in others.
