I am interested in the quiet histories embedded in Scotland’s landscapes – the traces of time etched into stone, earth and weathered surfaces. My work is shaped by a deep connection to the Scottish Islands, particularly Orkney, where I find inspiration in ancient sites, and the geological formations that hold stories far older than we can grasp. These places speak through erosion, layering, and presence. Printmaking, particularly etching, has become my way of engaging with these themes. I see it as a slow, tactile process that mirrors the Idea of excevation – both involving a gradual uncovering – scratching, cutting, or corroding away. there is a slowness and sensitivity to etching that I really value; the metal plate becomes a kind of landscape itself – scored, worn and textured – Holding onto marks that speak of time and pressure. I’m particularly interested in the tension between preservation and erosion: how history can be slowly lost to natural processes or made visable again through artistic intervention.
