Poppie Wood

I am a multi-disciplinary artist with a predominant focus on sculpture using nature and the human form as a playground for creative development. I was raised in the Scottish Highlands and currently based in Glasgow. Being raised by the raw sea and the mystical woodlands of the highlands created a fierce passion within me for wild Scottish nature and wildlife. Moving to the city evidenced the many different roles we play as humans and what are bodies are capable of. The connecting relationships between Mother Nature and human interception resound through the main artery of my practice. I enjoy playing on the fine line between scientific reality and lucid imagination, provoking emotions from viewers that are raw, unfiltered and untamed. The intentions of my artwork is not to lead the viewer’s perception, but instead to encourage viewers to question everything they think they know, and think again. Sustainability and climate change lie at the core of my practice and are undeniably woven into my work’s research and development. The location and placement of my work is important as it represents the bridge that redirects us back to nature from the restraints of society. My artwork is designed to create space, to give a voice to the voiceless and to encourage a push for change and realistic ownership of ones anatomy through the reality of being a working class woman within the creative arts industry.
